ADDING YOUR CHAT ROOM TO CHAT27

Postby JC » Tue Aug 01, 2006 6:21 pm

First things first:
Chat 27 is not about making new chat rooms popular. Chat 27 is about exposing chat rooms that have done the legwork, gone through the teething process, came out on top, and already have a loyal following.

Adding chat rooms with no/very few chatters will simply frustrate new chatters that connect to it, they will leave immediately, the room will thus not have the opportunity to grow anyway, and do chat27 more damage than good in the end for having so many redundant chat rooms. Chat 27 does not have an advertising budget, and thus relies solely on word of mouth and its good reputation for connecting to chat rooms worth chatting in.

A general guideline to chat rooms that want to be added:
  1. You’ll need a minimum of 10-15 chatters (excluding ops, bots & clones) in your room at any given time between 9am and 9pm (GMT +2 SA time)
  2. You’ll need an official website so people can learn more about your room. Don't have one? Email jc@chat27.co.za and we'll set one up for you.
  3. You'll need to provide an Admin email address where people can report abuse and erroneous activity.
  4. Room name has to be unique (as in not similar to a room listed on chat27 already)
  5. There actually needs to be activity in the main room (other than join/parts)
  6. A link to http://www.chat27.co.za from your website. This is to establish that the website given is associated with the chat room - we've had problems in the past with chat rooms giving a website as their own and then receiving a threatening letter to the contrary from the actual website owner.
  7. If your room is on a server network not listed on chat27 yet, the server will need its own website, and contain at least 2-3 rooms with above criteria, as adding a new server network for just one room is a lot of work. It is strongly recommended that you - instead of starting a new room on an unknown network - rather start your room on the http://www.atrum.org or http://www.chatters.co.za network. You won't find friendlier support Admin!
Note:
  • No offensive chat rooms or offensive-themed rooms will be added… a point which is relative.
  • No Chat room where you have to "register a nickname to enter" will be added.
  • No further Lagnet rooms will be added due to Lagnet server "local only" policies
  • No further Zanet rooms will be added due to the fact that we've never been able to establish contact with server admin.
  • Your chat room on http://www.Atrum.org or http://www.chatters.co.za network a plus
  • Cool chat room name a plus
  • If your user volume dips drastically below initial criteria for an extended period (2-3 weeks) the room will be removed from the Chat27 list without notification.
  • Note that CGI chat can be set up by Chat27, but on the applicable IRC network's own servers as I'm yet to find an independent, affordable and reliable host that allows CGI IRC. I'll need FTP upload details to your server that has CGI installed on it, and your assurance that your upstream provider allows CGI IRC (http://cgiirc.org/).
  • As Chat27 is a free website maintained by a single (very busy) person, please allow 7 - 28 days before chat rooms are added. Inclusion is not guaranteed.

So your chat room complies with the above? I'll need:
  1. The Room Name/s
  2. The Server/Network it's hosted on (primary & secondary)
  3. A short description of each room you want added - you'll see all our chat rooms have one.
  4. Your official website address for each room
  5. The email address for people to report abuse in your chat room/s.
  6. The location of the chat27 link on your website.

Just send the above info to jc@chat27.co.za

Adding a channel to Chat27

Postby Hades » Mon Apr 09, 2007 4:10 am

Hi JC,

Just a quick thought. I know it probably doesn't have the required 15-20 chatters, but perhaps add #help on Atrum to Chat27 for the newbies?

Just a point to ponder.. ;)

Hmmm on the suggestion from Hades. It sounds good as the Atrum help channel can support countless help information about irc and java chatting so any general problems that might be experienced by the users of chat27 can be handled in a direct approach by professional experienced help staff that has been put through multiple tests and update courses in helping people.

The Atrum Irc Network is always there to help in any possible way and is mostly recommended by every single one of our chatters.

The help channel can serve as a basis to help new chatters register their nicknames on irc and solve any problem that they might experience. We may also be able to help even the experienced users in some cases.

The more happy a chatter is the more they will chat and keep on chatting and thats a fundamental element to the Atrum community. We are more like a close family and community that is there to support our chatters in every way possible.

Adding the help channel of Atrum might in the end prove very useful but its always a choice that is left to you.

All i can say is Atrum all the way.....

#Help on Atrum

Postby JC » Tue Aug 07, 2007 11:59 am

Hi there guys. Thank you for the positive feedback. I ran the idea past the guys in #help a while ago, and the feelings were quite mixed, which is totally understandable.

On the one hand I could take advantage of the offer, but the problem is that the friendly and awesomely (such a word?) helpful guys at Atrum #help would not only be questioned regarding Atrum issues, but also issues around other networks, chat27 questions, Java issues, chat27 forum issues and who knows what else. I think you'd agree that I'd be making a very unfair request if I expected the #help guys to handle those kinds of issues as well...

Your thoughts on this are very welcome
